EXPERTISE / ROLES / ASSIGNMENTS

Plenty of experience.
Even more drive to build.

Over 25 years in software, a commercial background and an enduring curiosity. This is the experience I bring to your challenge.

1999Started in software
2008Founded Nape
25+Years of software experience

Here before the AI hype.
Not born yesterday.

01 / DIFFERENT ROLES, THE SAME APPROACH

The hat that fits.
Not the title that impresses.

Sometimes a team needs the bigger picture. Sometimes it needs someone deep in the code. I switch roles, not personalities.

01 /

Business sounding board

Find the question behind the question. Translate needs into options, trade-offs and an approach that fits the organisation.

02 /

Software engineer

Build, improve and maintain software myself. From APIs and data layers to the application people actually use.

03 /

Application architect

Structure without castles in the air. Connect the domain, data, integrations and maintainability.

04 /

Analyst & designer

Explore feasibility, understand processes and make ideas tangible with functional designs and prototypes.

05 /

Team lead & coach

Combine technical direction with coordination and guidance. Share knowledge, help junior developers and make collaboration work.

06 /

AI in everyday development

Using AI extensively in my work at Topicus and KB360. Connecting new possibilities with software experience, grounded in human judgement.

Six hats. One point of contact. That's one less meeting.

02 / THE TOOLBOX

Breadth of experience.
Depth where it matters.

Software & integration

C# · .NET / .NET Core · ASP.NET · MVC · Web API · Azure · SQL Server · JavaScript · jQuery · Kendo UI · Visual Studio

Web applications, services, databases and connected business software.

Architecture & data

DDD · MVC · MVVM · MVP · Dependency Injection · Entity Framework · Dapper · NHibernate · SQL

Domain modelling, application architecture, data models and reusable components.

People & process

Analysis · Advice · Prototyping · Team leadership · Coaching · Scrum · Git · TFS

From feasibility studies and technical estimates to coordination, development and maintenance.

AI & craftsmanship

AI-assisted development · Prompt context · Agent workflows · Result validation

Extensive AI use at Topicus and KB360, alongside this website experiment. No unsubstantiated claims about client outcomes or training models.
I speak the language of older systems, too

Historical project experience, not a recommendation to adopt these technologies for new systems:

WPF · WCF · WF · PRISM · MEF · Silverlight · Angular · VB.NET · Visual Basic · C / C++ · ASP · XML / XSLT / XSD · COM+ · Oracle / PL/SQL · Access · Informix · SQL Reporting Services · Crystal Reports · ClickOnce · UML · RUP · OOP · CBD · DNA · Web Services

03 / EDUCATION & CONTINUOUS LEARNING

A business-minded foundation.
Always growing technically.

My education connects the commercial and technical sides of my work. Since then, I have kept developing in software, architecture and collaboration.

1992–1996

HTO Technical Business Administration

Saxion · Enschede

A technical and business foundation that helps connect client questions, organisational goals and software.

1999

Academy Technical Automation (ATA)

Career conversion programme

This retraining in technical automation provided the bridge to my career in software development.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Always learning

Courses and training in Microsoft .NET (C#, OOP, MVC, WPF, WF, WCF and Entity Framework), Azure, database design, RUP/UML, advisory skills and Scrum. Also Prince2 Overview, Prince2 Foundation and various AI courses, including “AI onder de motorkap”. I also took part in an AI hackathon.

A summary of training undertaken; not a list of current certifications.

04 / MORE THAN KNOWLEDGE. EXPERIENCE.

From financial software
to public services.

My assignments, concisely and in plain language. Recent roles first. Earlier projects show where my experience comes from.

Based on my career profile and current updates. Organisation names describe work experience, not endorsements or partnerships. Technologies reflect their respective periods.

Selling hydraulics before moving into software. A commercial background that still shapes how I work: listening, asking questions and connecting a need to a practical solution.

The connecting thread

After sales at Parker Hannifin, I moved into software through Atos Origin (1998–2005) and Be Value/Ordina (2005–2008). I've run Nape since October 2008, including collaboration through LegIT. Assignments may overlap. My current week is four days employed at Topicus and one day freelancing at KB360.

Project descriptions have been edited for clarity; historical technologies have not been retrospectively replaced with modern terms. The AI references at Topicus and KB360 describe only my own use, not internal processes or business results.

A GOOD IDEA STARTS WITH A CONVERSATION.
